More about Carol:

Public finance expert, Tatonka Capital Corporation and Tatonka Education Services CEO, Carol Hansen, is a thoughtful, unflappable and tenacious CEO. In her role as an investor and entrepreneur, Carol has built highly functioning private businesses that have stood the test of time. Tatonka Capital celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018 and is one of a few private debt providers in the public finance space that survived the global debt crisis of 2008. Hansen and her team are adept at identifying inefficiencies in-plain-sight of large market niches. The company grew from an idea, to a source of funding and servicing more than $1B in public sector and consumer credits.

Tatonka Capital provides merchant banking services to manufactures and service providers of the U.S. Government, State and local government entities. Financing projects include all equipment class and service vertical markets; real estate, telecom, flight simulation, transportation, aircraft, education, emergency services and more.

Along with her partners, Hansen, formed Tatonka Credit Services; a third party consumer credit provider active in the horse trailer, high-end motorcycle and high-end piano markets from 1997 to 2005. Market forces had left this niche disjointed and inefficient in the late 1990s. TCS acted on the opening in the market and exited when large banks re-entered the space and tightened returns.

Hansen founded Tatonka Education Services (TES), in 2015, when presented with a workout challenge involving a failed charter school management company. Hansen and the senior management team’s actions successfully worked to keep from closing affected schools, which could have left staff and students out in the cold. New management was found for 27 schools and when several schools were left behind, TES applied management expertise to turn them around. Over a two-year period TES took its managed schools from insolvency and low academic scores to financial stability and growing academic success. TES currently operates charter schools in Arizona, Colorado and Ohio. TES stands poised to bring positive disruption to the charter school management space.

Hansen is an active participant in the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) at the local and international levels of the organization. She has been awarded two of YPO’s top international honors for her leadership. Carol served as an Advisor to Sheryl Sandberg and the Launch Team, which today supports 35,000 Lean In Circles. She is also active in other philanthropic and trade organizations and has served/chaired secured and unsecured creditor committees for various bankruptcy proceedings.

Hansen is a Denver, Colorado, native, is married and is the mother of three happy, independent, adult children. She enjoys her granddaughters, family, friends and living in a destination resort. But she really does have a passion for her company and her work!! A favorite quote explains Carol knows how lucky she is that an observer cannot tell if she is working … or playing.
