The DWN Trailblazer Award recognizes an innovator and risk-taker within their team and our company whose courage, dedication, and excellence in their role all inspire others to achieve. This year’s Trailblazer is Kathy Hoffman-Gillis on our DISH Wireless Team!

Having joined the team last winter, Kathy has already made an incredible impact with her pervasive leadership style, conflict resolution expertise, and numerous accomplishments in one of our newest business units. In particular, she’s been a fantastic sounding board for the number of team members transferring from other teams. Her leadership recently enabled the project management team to complete the site acquisition process for nearly every NarrowBand tower—just one of her many successes in her role.

Mentor of the Year

The DWN Mentor of the Year Award goes to someone with great dedication in developing female talent. They use encouragement, motivation and their own knowledge or expertise to help other members reach their full potential. This year’s Mentor of the Year is Michelle Baker on our Marketing team!

You can see Michelle’s impact in the number of nominations she received alone—the most by far for these awards. Michelle’s peers noted that she consistently goes above and beyond in her role, with one nominator explaining, “She has helped shaped the woman/designer that I have become, and inspired me to push boundaries and carve my own path in this industry.” Michelle gives consistent inspiration and guidance to her peers, always pushing them to be their very best, and builds up her team members in all she does.

Advocate of the Year

The DWN Advocate of the Year Award honors a team member who plays an important role in reaching equality. This person understands the importance of giving minorities a voice, understanding how diverse teams make better decisions and drive greater innovation. Their actions make ours a more inclusive workplace. This year’s Advocate of the Year is Dedra Prester on our Human Resources Team!

Dedra’s compassion, involvement with our Employee Resource Groups, and efforts to inspire more inclusivity in the workplace are among the many reasons she received nominations this year. As her team explained, she encourages everyone around her “to be MORE!” In her role, Dedra is committed to fair and consistent talent management practices, and has helped develop and foster a more inclusive environment at our Hilliard office. Beyond that, her work volunteering with a variety of different DISH Cares initiatives shows her desire to advocate for many kinds of populations and minorities.
